We’ve added another RHockstar to the RH Strategic DC office! We’re thrilled to introduce our newest Public Affairs Manager Devin Sears, who answers some questions about herself and her background.

Tell us about your PR background prior to joining RH Strategic.

I studied journalism at West Virginia University, and I’ve always had a passion for public relations. While I was still in school, I became the PR Manager for a national magazine, Gladys, and then started my own collegiate magazine, Her Campus WVU.

In 2012, I worked on Senator Joe Manchin’s re-election campaign in the state of West Virginia, and then went to work in his personal office in D.C. where I focused on communications. Later, I joined a strategic communications and lobbying firm, where I focused on defense and cybersecurity government affairs and crisis communications for an array of clients.

What about PR excites you the most?

I love being able to combine my experience in policy with my background in communications. With my focus being in public affairs, it’s exciting to help my clients communicate to the public sector – whether it’s through crafting congressional testimony, policy messaging or social media.

What is your morning routine?

I don’t like to be rushed in the morning, so I try to wake up a few hours before I leave for work. The absolute first thing I do is take my dog to the park. While he is burning energy, I’m usually catching up on the news – reading newspaper articles, scrolling through social media, and reading cybersecurity-specific blogs.

Where is your dream vacation spot?

If I could spend a month or two in Italy, that would be amazing! I spent a few weeks traveling northern Italy last summer, but it didn’t feel like it was long enough. Not only does Italy have the best food, art and history, but the people are some of the kindest I’ve met. I would love to go back and explore the rest of the country.

What was the last concert you attended?

I went to the Kennedy Center’s Declassified series that featured Ben Folds, Blake Mills and the National Symphony Orchestra. Ben Folds is one of the most creative musicians I’ve ever seen live, and the concert was a blast. They even had karaoke in the lobby after the show!
