RH Strategic, a Washington, DC- and Seattle-based PR firm representing the next generation of leaders in technology, government and healthcare is seeking a talented, public affairs media and communications professional to join its high performing team in Washington, D.C.

Our ideal candidate has experience leading media strategy for public affairs programs and understands how to navigate a rapidly shifting technology policy landscape. We are looking for candidates who demonstrate advanced understanding of the interplay between key D.C.-based media and legislative/regulatory decision-making. Serious candidates will also have experience and success developing storylines, pitching media and proactively advising clients on communication strategies related to their public affairs objectives.

Qualified candidates will have at least four years of public affairs/public relations and D.C. media relations experience. Candidates must have strong writing and project management skills and be able to hit the ground running in a team management and client-facing role.


  • 4+ years of public policy or issue advocacy media relations experience in D.C.
  • Demonstrates understanding of legislative and regulatory process, as well as key players within agencies, Capitol Hill, trade associations, and media.
  • Demonstrates a expert-level understanding of the D.C. media landscape – key outlets, their editorial focus, do’s and don’ts, and best approaches to pitch stories and interviews.
  • Able to devise public relations strategy to support government relations objectives, confidently present to clients, and convert into campaign-level action
  • Able to counsel clients on media strategy such as preparing for interviews, talking points, and responding to a crisis
  • Demonstrates exceptional writing skills and attention to detail for an agency setting with the ability to produce public affairs content including messaging, policy updates, OpEds, speeches, briefing documents; as well as media relations content including press releases and media pitches
  • Understands common agency tools and resources to build media lists, track coverage, and analyze results
  • Quickly and easily comprehends clients’ business, issues and competitive environments and how particular public policies may impact their business
  • Ability to serve as primary client contact for senior executives and liaise with outside vendors
  • Must have a portfolio or samples of recent placements as well as writing samples to share
