October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, but for businesses today cybersecurity must be a year-long endeavor. Good cybersecurity prevents data breaches, protects reputations, and saves businesses time and money by avoiding PR crises.
Thanks to the concentration of cyber experts and policymakers within the D.C. metro area, the District has become a year-round hub for cyber thought leadership and innovation, allowing industry leaders to regularly engage with Congress and help shape national cybersecurity policies throughout the calendar year. Cybersecurity Awareness Month may be winding down now, but, in the District, cybersecurity will continue to be a hot topic for the rest of 2019 and throughout 2020.
To highlight the great cyber work being done on and near Capitol Hill, we’ve put together a list of five of the most influential local events to put on your 2020 calendar. All these events feature industry leaders – including a couple of our own clients, who sponsored or hosted major local events in 2019! FedScoop’s Security Through Innovation Summit, sponsored by McAfee, April 2020 (exact date TBD)
FedScoop’s annual summit brings together leaders from the public and private sectors to discuss the future of security and the exciting innovations transforming security platforms across the government. Notable past speakers include Grant Schneider, the Federal CISO, leaders from DHS’s new agency CISA and executives from McAfee. The event is a great opportunity to see the work McAfee is doing to better prepare the federal government for the constantly evolving threat landscape.
Tenable’s GovEdge conference features two days full of keynotes, customer-led talks and deep-dive breakout sessions with federal, state and local government agencies looking to make the most of their Tenable deployments. Featuring Tenable executives and government speakers, GovEdge highlights how Tenable solutions fit into the larger cyber landscape and how they can help agencies at all levels of government close the cyber gap. Speakers at last year’s conference included CISA Assistant Director for Cybersecurity Jeanette Manfra, Tenable CEO Amit Yoran and others.
Billington Cybersecurity Summit, September 8-9, 2020
The annual summit recently held its 10th event, which brings together leaders from sectors including energy and technology to discuss the security solutions they’ve implemented and the work that still needs to be done. The event features insightful conversations on the latest in cloud, AI and other top of mind issues in the cyber landscape from government leaders including NSA Cybersecurity Director Anne Neuberger.
Cyber Next D.C., Cyber Threat Alliance, October 2020 (exact date TBD)
This event brings together leaders from the private sector, administration officials, members of Congress and other government leaders for critical discussions about key cyber programs, such as DHS’s Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM) program. The event helps industry professionals identify new forward-thinking approaches toward cybersecurity.
CyberWeek, Cyberscoop, October 2020 (exact date TBD)
CyberWeek is a weeklong event that brings together more than 10,000 attendees for 100+ community events throughout the city. The week offers critical networking opportunities for leaders in the industry as well as the opportunity to participate in workshops and events to improve the cyber industry. As a highly visible and promoted event throughout the DMV area, CyberWeek brings together the best of the industry for important conversations.
